Once applied, the automatic handbrake (standard on all but base-spec models) senses when the vehicle is pulling forwards and automatically releases. This is great for smooth queuing on slopes and prevents unintentional rolling. Hasty manoeuvres or tight car parks can be difficult, due to Laguna’s long body and large turning circle. Although this is no different from many similar-sized estates, the optional parking sensors can help avoid a costly prang. GT models - from spring this year- get four-wheel-steering for greater grip and a more enjoyable driving experience. Renault calls this system "Active Drive" - the rear wheels move up to three degrees when the car is being driven on twisty roads. Another benefit of the system is that it reduces the size of the turning circle - around town the Laguna GT can turn is the same space as a Clio.
The cabin is roomy and comfortable. Front seats are supportive, with driver’s lumbar support standard across the range. The driver’s seat and steering wheel both offer plenty of adjustment, so a good driving position can be found quickly. The light-coloured wooden strip which spans the dashboard on Initiale models gives the cabin an upmarket look. The integrated audio (and optional sat-nav) system is controlled via a small dial on the centre-console. All models are equipped with either air conditioning or climate control. There’s a choice of four trim levels: Expression, Dynamique, Dynamique S and Initiale. As standard, Laguna comes with ABS with EBD, air conditioning, alloy wheels, a CD/radio, electric door mirrors, electric front and rear anti-pinch windows, a leather steering wheel, ESP with traction control, and privacy glass. If you value stunning looks, relaxed cruising, a comfortable ride and fine handling and sheer driving enjoyment then the Renault Laguna is for you.
